$1,000 Donation: UKRAINIAN SCHOOL FOR REFUGEES IN BUCHAREST

 

If you've been following my social media and YouTube videos these past few weeks, you'll know that we hit the goal of raising $10,000 through the GoFundMe that I set up with Dan Leal. Over the next few weeks the goal is to send all of that money, directly to help Ukrainians who need it quickly and the most. 

I believe that if we all extend our own personal networks to help people we personally have met and trust, we can do a lot of good. So if anyone wants to chip in and donate directly to any of these people or causes I'll be listing over the next few weeks, know that they were vetted by me and can be trusted. 

Who, Where, and How Much

I honestly don't remember too much about how we met, but I think it was 4 years ago in at a language exchange meet up in Odessa, Ukraine. Anastasiia Konovalova (her facebook) is now teaching Ukrainian refugee students who have escaped the war and are now in Bucharest, Romania. Many of the 227 middle school students have fled their homes in Mariupol, Ukraine where the attacks by Russian forces were devastating and brutal.

Thanks to the money collected from GoFundMe, I've been able to send her $1,000 (29995 uah) to her bank card which will help pay for the teacher's salaries and supplies for the students. The kids are taught in Ukrainian, English and Romanian and all attend for free. So if you want to help support, the details are below and they are looking for teachers who can help as well! 

HELP UKRAINIAN SCHOOL FOR REFUGEES IN BUCHAREST

Dear friends. Everyone who knows me personally, and everyone who is just feeling the pain of what my nation is going through, knows how desperate things are for Ukraine and her people. 

A team of amazing teachers from the school I run in Odessa fled the war to Bucharest. We have started a free school for refugee Ukrainian children. They desperately need education in their native language right now. Children have been through too much pain and chaos. They need stability, they need safety, they need school. They need a normal childhood.

The Government of Bucharest has generously provided us with 8 classrooms in one of the best schools in the city. But there are more children arriving here everyday who need help.

We are currently teaching 227 kids, and there are 342 more on the waiting list! 

We have teachers who can teach. We have classrooms to teach in. But the school needs money: for minimal salaries, resources, supplies, printers, projectors. Having fled the war and left their lives and livelihoods behind, the parents of our Ukrainian students cannot currently pay anything.

We are asking for donations for our Ukrainian school, Островок Cambridge Primary School & Preschool. This would enable us:

1) To provide our children a competitive, high quality education in their mother-language. 

2) Give our children a chance of a normal childhood again. 

3)To save the jobs of our wonderful Ukrainian teachers.

4) To pay taxes and provide support to our country's economy; as the war is killing it every day.
