Why Russia Really Invaded Ukraine.

Every day I get messages from people who write me or comment on my posts and videos saying "XYZ" is the reason why Russia invaded Ukraine. The majority of these people have never even been to Ukraine and definitely haven't lived there for as long as I have.

Normally I just ignore these comments, or even block them if they are an obvious Russian bot or Paid Propaganda Troll, but the problem is when I look at their profile and realize they might be just a normal person who has fallen for the Russian propaganda and is now re-spreading bullshit information. If you are serious about knowing why Russia invaded Ukraine, watch this interview with Timothy Snyder, it's long, but informative and goes more in depth than I can here.

A lot of people don't realize this, but propaganda campaigns are real, bot farms are real, and they actually work. Russia is losing the war on the battlefield, and know that their only way to win is for world wide and western support for Ukraine to diminish. Sure there's always been misinformation out there on all topics, especially politics, but normally I wouldn't waste my time trying to educate people as it really didn't matter that much.

I didn't waste my time arguing about covid with anti-vaxxers, or about how many pronouns there should be for gender equality. But with Ukraine, people are dying, having their homes destroyed, and since I'm in a unique position of having a large English speaking audience, while having unique insights into Ukraine, I feel like it's my duty to help how I can.

So why did Russia really invade Ukraine?

NATO Expansion: This one made sense as who would want another big military on their doorsteps? The USA definitely didn't want CUBA to have nuclear weapons. However, what people don't realize is that NATO is a defensive pact designed specifically to deter countries like Russia from gobbling up smaller, weak, defensive countries. If Georgia was part of NATO, they would still have all their territory today. The same with Ukraine.

However, either way, all this breaks down as before the Russian invasion on February 24th, 2022, there was almost zero chance Ukraine ever would had been accepted into NATO. Russia could had easily asked any of the 30 members to block it, and without an immediate threat, they would had happily of done it for continued gas deals, especially with countries like Hungary.

But since AFTER the Russian invasion, NATO has naturally expanded as countries like Finland, Sweden, and Moldova are worried that they will be next. Even though there was zero talk on Finland even considering joining NATO prior to 2022, now on April 4th, 2023, Finland officially became the 31st NATO member, bringing the border right up next to Russia. Yet so far Russia has said nothing and has acted like it wasn't a big deal. So then, why was Russia so scared of Ukraine joining and not Finland?

Finland NATO Russia Border

Was this always a plan by Obama since 2014?

Another crazy Pro-Russian War talking point is that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is an American Puppet instilled in office after the CIA overthrew the old Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. This is complete BS, as anyone who has actually lived in Ukraine knows that Yanukovych was elected for promising to make Ukraine more Pro-West and to make an agreement with the EU to provide Ukraine with political and financial support, access to research and knowledge, and preferential access to EU markets. That's what the majority of people wanted

But instead, Yanukovych made a deal with Russia to get essentially a $15 Billion dollar bribe not to sign the agreement and to be make a deal with Russia instead. Not to mention Yanukovych was already corrupt and wasted billions of tax payer dollars building a palace in Ukraine. Ukrainian citizens overthrew him because he was a terrible president, not because the CIA had any control. Does that mean that the US wasn't rooting for a Pro-West President? The US can't even control our own people, you are calling Ukrainians stupid if you think the CIA can install a president that they didn't want. People don't even realize that Zelensky wasn't even the next President in Ukraine after 2014, it was Petro Poroshenko for 5 years. The only reason why Zelensky won was because he was a popular TV star and campaigned to be Pro-West and Anti-Corruption. It'd be similar to if Oprah or Jimmy Kimmel ran for President, or in our case, reality star Donald Trump.

Conclusion:

I feel like I wasted 45 minutes writing this as most people who write comments on why it was okay for Russia to invade Ukraine either aren't real people in the first place, or are too stupid and ignorant to read a long form blog post and understand the truth.

The reality is, Ukraine isn't and has never been perfect, and has struggled for centuries. Being under USSR rule for so long hasn't helped either. But if you think for even one second that Ukraine deserved to be invaded, and that people deserved to have their lives destroyed, homes ruined, and family members stolen, then you have no empathy and no brain cells. I genuinely feel bad that you can be that stupid to think it's okay for a country in 2022-2023 to invade another. It's not 1849 anymore, we're supposed to be in a civilized world now.

Russia was wrong for invading Ukraine and only did it because they thought it would be easy. It wasn't, and the US and other countries decided to help Ukraine, and punish Russia for doing it. Punishing Russia deters them and other countries from invading their neighbors in the future. If the West allowed Russia to win and take Ukraine, China would had taken Taiwan next, and so on.

At the end of the day, Russia caused all these problems by invading Ukraine on February 24th, 2022 and to continue to fight a losing war. They can and could had left any day, and peace can only be obtained when Russia leaves all of Ukraine and measures are put in place so they don't do it again.

With Love and Compassion,
