Johnny's 33rd

What's up everyone!  Guess what today is?

It's the best day of my life.  Today is the day that I wake up, with 1/3 of my life being over, yet 2/3 of my life being full.  It's kind of strange to think about it, but if I plan to live to one hundred, being Thirty Three really isn't that old.

A year ago, I wouldn't have thought the same.  Two years ago, I felt even older and a lot more pessimistic.  Ever since I was young, I always wished I was older and when I finally got older, I wish I could be young again.  But this year I can say, I am happy.

Life changes quick.  It really does, and it's not just the title of my new book.  A year ago my life was completely different.  I'm in far better shape now, I have a lot more money in my bank account, and I'm able to live a life that I really enjoy living.  On July 11th 2013, I was sitting in the exact same spot as I am today, in the same city, with the same view in front of me, but something has changed, everything has changed.  My entire outlook on life has shifted.

Who I am grateful for in 2014:

My family, especially my sister Christina who always shows me love and support.
My girlfriend, Larissa who not only accepts me for who I am, but constantly encourages me and supports me as I work towards bigger and better goals.
My old friends, especially those who I don't see as often as I'd like, for keeping in touch.
My new friends, which i'm fortunate to have met, even though we were born and raised oceans apart.
My mentors, who guide me through life, business and striving to improve everything around me.  Kurt for originally inspiring me to get off my ass.  Anton for showing me a system that actually works.  And all of the entrepreneurs who each teach me something literally every day.
My supporters who take the time to read my book, listen to my podcast and read my blog, if it wasn't for you guys I would have no one to share my story and my struggles with.
You, for taking the time to actually read this.  You are the reason why I wake up in the morning and take the time to write blogs, record podcasts and share my thoughts.

Thank you to everyone who follows my blog and takes the time to leave thoughtful comments.  I feel truly blessed this year as I really have everything I need.  So I would like to take this time to share some of the happiness with everyone else.

Spread the Love:

This year instead of giving gifts or writing generic "happy bday" messages on my facebook wall, this is what I would love from you all.  Choose one of the following, or if you are feeling extra generous, maybe all three.

1. Leave a comment and share a memory you have, if could be something I said, something we learned from each other or a photo.

2. Leave a review of the Travel Like a Boss Podcast on the iTunes store.  I really love sharing inspirational interviews with all of the incredible people I meet while traveling, and having more iTunes reviews makes the podcast easier for people to find.

3. Leave an impression on future generations.  I'm a big fan of Donor's Choose which allows you to give directly to teachers.  Feel free to choose whichever school, project or cause that you feel closest to, or donate to help kids read on the same project I chose.

Thank you for spending a part of my 33rd bday with me by reading this, best wishes to everyone on making this year, the best year of your life.

Warm Regards,

Johnny

  1. Johnny, Thank you for yet another amazing blog post! Yes, I am a big fan of all your work!! :) I like how your story truly shows that our happiness is so much about our own perception about things, our own outlook on life...at the end of the day...happiness is truly a choice! I have learned from you...not to judge a book by its cover...the crazy ass Asian man who likes wearing gold and sitting like a lady boy on scooter with his best friend looking very gangsta by the way....has such a beautiful soul and amazing character...thank you for being an inspiration in my life! You also taught me to take risks...nothing great in life comes from playing safe cards...if you want to do something there is no reason why you cant do it. Learn to do it. and Love it. It will be supported. Wishing you a happy 33rd birthday!

  3. Happy birthday, Johnny! You may don't know how many people are actually feel thankful for the inspiration you are sharing. The lifestyle you are living could not be for everyone, but the one thing we all can learn from you is that just take action. Don't hesitate. There are always opportunities out there you could never thought of. Those little surprises make our lives interesting and unique, and demolish the walls we built around us. I believe in it, and seeing group of people doing it and trying to help others is so touching and inspiring. I can't wait to see my awesome life thanks to people like you. Thank you so much. All the best wishes for you, your friends, and families.

  4. Hey Bro,

I found one of your blogs back in 2007 and I've learned a lot from your experiences.

I sometimes feel like we have the same mindset because I relate so much to the things you talk about in your blogs and podcast.

I know we haven't met yet but I really feel as if you're a brother from another mother because we have similar mindsets.

I'm really proud to see how far you've come and your progression!

Have a great celebration Johnny! THANK YOU for paving the way towards helping people like me find my own FREEDOM someday outside a cubicle! DexterC

Found your blog when I searched about dropshipping. I'm inspired by you to register DSL and the Retreat. Although I'm not into dropshipping now, thanks so much for your help.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

  7. Hey Johnny,
Happy Birthday and again a BIG thanks for you and all that you do for others. I'm truly grateful for all your help and encouragement in my drop shipping business and especially for opening my eyes for a great way I can live in Thailand and still be able to support my family.
Hope to see you in October.

  8. Hey Johnny,

First, Happy birthday! I was going through your list of birthday request but one was a clear standout. Donors Choose is one of my favorite charities and so it was a no-brainer. Awesome birthday gift idea, books for needy kids. Have a good one and thanks for the blog and your course, they have both inspired & educated me.

  9. Johnny!!! IT'S YOUR BDAY!!! I would normally say something like "I hope you have a great day celebrating!" or something like that, but judging from the numerous gorgeous photos you always post, I'm betting that you're way ahead of me ;) Anyway, I miss you! And I'm thrilled to see how happy you seem. Maybe I'll make it out there some day, but since it's probably more likely-- come visit SD soon!
I'll always remember when I sprained my ankle and it swelled to 5x its size and you would always help by putting Tiger Balm on it...I'm still not exactly sure what Tiger Balm is, whether it's made out of tigers or its made for tigers? I'm not sure, but it definitely helped :) I also remember when you joined me on my birthday celebration at the Melting Pot downtown! That was so fun and the card you gave me was so sweet. Thanks for being such a great friend and and even better human being. Happy birthday dude!! -Cricket (Clare)

    1. Hey Cricket! It's so nice to hear from you after all of this time! I completely forgot about the time you sprained ankle until just now! I hope you're a better skateboarder now =) But I'm glad I've turned you onto Tiger Balm, no idea what's in it either, but it's magic. Hope all is well in Sunny SD!

  11. Johnny, happy belated birthday!

I found your YouTube channel and subsequently your podcast in August last year. I had just returned from a vacation in Thailand and was so sad to leave. But I saw the video of you talking to Anton at an infinity pool in Chiang Mai. You were the spark of hope that told me there is a way to make dreams come true. For the last 11 months I've been listening and relistening to your podcasts. You don't just blow smoke, man, you lay itniut and tell people they can and how they can. Your integrity and hope is amazing. Thank you for being you at 32! 33 is only going to be better.

Johnny, I made my final decision this week. I have my nest egg saved, so I'm buying the course on August 1, and I will be in Thailand before the retreat. I'll bootstrap my business and live in Chiang Mai! You said to come out there, so I am heading that way! Thank you, thank you for the inspiration and direction! I hope your birthday is as inspiring for you as you are to so many people.

    1. Hey JP, so happy that you have been following along in my journey now for this past year! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes. It's good that you already know how much you like Thailand, so coming out this time to do your business is going to be a breeze. Make sure you use all of my links in the resources page when you get started, and looking forward to meeting you at the retreat!

  12. Hey Johnny, Happy Belated Birthday! I actually wrote a message on or the day after your b-day, just to tell you i left a review for your i-tunes. I don't think my comment was published though. Anyways, I am sure I will meet you at some point, especially because I left my heart in Chiang Mai...not San Francisco as the song goes. I spent 5 months there last fall and tried to do the teaching thing, but decided I needed to make a little more to put that amount of time in...long story, but I am back in the US now since February, with parents, unemployed, but hopeful. Still building my little travel blog. I didnt know anything about dropshipping until recently because of you. I appreciate all of your hard work and openness about your history...I can so relate. My goal is to start Anton's course hopefully in the next few weeks. I start a short term contract next week, so I will be saving up so I can invest in my own e-commerce store and anton's course. Thanks again brotha for the inspiration. More next time. Brian@ one-away.com
