Anton Method - Drop Ship Lifestyle Review

I signed up for Anton's Training Course eight months ago, here is my honest review of the course.  I randomly met Anton while he was traveling in Thailand.  It all stemmed from us both reading the 4-hour workweek years ago and adding each other on facebook, but we had never met or spoke until then.

That random dinner with Anton was the first time I had ever heard about eCommerce or dropshipping. It just made sense and I saw that Anton was a genuine, successful guy and I wanted to learn more.  We've become friends since then but I started like everyone else, just another student wanting to learn.

When I first met Anton, I was expecting him to be 48 years old based on this photo of him.

I was excited when I found out he had a training course on how to setup an eCommerce store that explained everything step by step.  I was okay at writing blogs and had basic internet skills but had no idea how to setup an online store, what a niche was or how to get approved by dropshippers.

Luckily, Anton's course showed me step by step how to use templates to build the website, pick a niche, get approved by suppliers, get traffic and make my first sale.

Here's my story and my honest review of Anton's training course:

Here is the website for the course:  www.AntonMethod.com

The first two months:

Zip, zero.  That was my income.  I was living in a old thai apartment for $116US a month and had less than $200 in my bank account.  Even though I had just finished writing a book on how to live in Thailand for cheap and was pretty good at it, I realized that as fun as it was in my 20's, I was turning 32 and wanted more out of life.  I swore then to dedicate myself to making this online business work no matter what.  I used the rest of my savings to rent a co-working office space and move into a quieter apartment right behind the office building so I could work day and night.  I was focused, desperate and determined and it paid off.

Making my first sale:

On July 27th after two months of self doubt, long hours, and relentlessly following Anton's training course I made my first sale.  It was the beginning of a new life for me.  My testimonial on Anton's site looks tantalizing but here's the truth behind it.

Did I really make $18,600 my first month?

No. I wish.  The first two months I made exactly a hundred eighty bucks.  But the first month my store was actually live and making sales I made $18.8k in revenue.

Was that all profit?  I wish!

How much did I actually make in profit?

June 2013 - $0
July 2013 - $180.24
August 2013 - $2,189.68

My actual sales from my first month the store was live and running.

I signed up for Anton's course on May 27th 2013 and made my first sale on July 27th 2013.

On July 27th - July 31st I made four sales.  On August 1st my first official month being in business began and it was the start of a new life.

My first post after I signed up for the course in the private members forums.

My best month in profit:

October 2013 was my best month profit wise, I netted $3,205.40 which means after all expenses I put a bit over three thousand two hundred dollars in my bank account.  This was also the month I was in the U.S., answering all of the calls myself and really focusing on growing the business.

How much can you expect to make in profit?

As much as you want.  Literally.  The guy who makes the most using Anton's course lives in the U.S. and works from home 50 hours a week.  He took the same business model and instead of just running one or two stores he has over 15 and makes over $100,000 a year in profit.  The best thing about Anton's Method is you can scale it up by duplicating your store in other niches.

If you do the math, you can make between $1,000 - $8,000 in profit for every store you open, so why not open 20 stores? Personally I don't want to work that much and I enjoy the 4-hour workweek lifestyle, but it's an option.

This is what I call working from home!

Update: 8 Months Later

I started my first store, replicated it into different niches and now have three.  I've hired an employee in the U.S. to answer calls and do customer support for me.  I'm focusing my free time on exploring different niches, interviewing guests for my new podcast and traveling to all the places I never had time or money to go to before.  I moved out of my basic thai apartment and into a nice serviced hotel room.  I stopped focusing my attention on living as cheaply as possible and am now able to spend money on the things I've always knew were important, such as my health, fitness and happiness.  Even with the upgraded lifestyle I still managed to turn my $200 savings into currently over $16,000 in spendable profit in my bank account even after paying off all of my credit cards.  I currently have $0 debt and all of my personal and business credit cards are paid in full.

I know it won't last forever so my goal is to continue making money with my stores as long as possible while using the experience I've gained through the process to explore ways to get into manufacturing my own products for a higher margin and barrier to entry.

Update: 1 Year Later:

One year later doing better than ever!

My honest opinion of Anton's Method and Drop Ship Lifestyle:

It worked for me. 8000% it worked for me.  I was also willing to put in the time, effort and dedication to make it work. Honestly most people don't.

It is the only training course for starting an online business or making money online that I can recommend because it is the only one I've ever used.  It works, it worked for me and it has worked for others as well but it's really up to you.

If you do sign up for the course, I would appreciate you using my link so I can get credit for it, which is AntonMethod.com.  A

Also if you sign up for Shopify which is the software I use for my eCommerce store you can download my 20% off Shopify coupon along with the other discounts I use for my ecommerce stores in this Discount PDF here.

I can't guarantee it will work for you, as I know some people give up before they make their first sale, or never even watch the first video to get started, but there is a 14 day cancellation policy so you really have nothing to lose.

If you're not going to take it seriously, just cancel and get your money back.  But if you're willing to put in the initial work like I did, and really take the time to follow the steps I know this system works. Best of luck to everyone and feel free to leave a comment and ask me any questions you might have.

I just got this email from a blog reader who is starting to see success with Anton's Drop Ship Lifestyle  Course.
I love hearing people's success, keep the feedback coming!  Best of luck in 2014!

2016 Update: The course still works, and I'm getting ready to start a bunch of new stores following Anton's Method again after taking a four month vacation in Europe after selling my first store, the one I mentioned above, for $60,000!

Warm Regards,

  1. Great write up Johnny, you've had a life changing year! How long are you staying in Chiang Mai for this time?

    1. Hey Kev, thanks for the best wishes. I'm planning to stay in Chiang Mai for another 2 months then going down to the islands somewhere and working on the business from the beach. My goal is to increase my income enough to live the good life out in Europe this summer so keep updated for that! Best of luck in 2014!

    4. Hi Johnny,

I come cross your website, and intrigued by your experience. I am working on my own e-commerce store now, and wanna sign up for Anton's course. Unfortunately it is closed now. Do you know any other good substitute course that can help me gain in-depth knowledge. Thank you so much for your help. I have bookmarked your blog, and will keep following up with it. :)

    5. Hey Sherry, glad to share! Sorry it's bad timing that Anton's course is closed. I would wait until it's back open in early 2016 as his is the only course I know 100% works.

The only other temporary solution is to take David Vu's course on eBay dropshipping which I explain why here: www.johnnyfd.com/2015/08/dropshipping-to-ebay-review-of-david.html

    7. Start with David's Ebay course, and if you can make $1,000 from that, use it to buy Anton's course: http://www.johnnyfd.com/2015/08/dropshipping-to-ebay-review-of-david.html

  2. Great summary of your journey Johnny, it's really inspiring.

I am not a US-citizen, but I am seriously thinking about taking Anton's course.

You mention "Applied and Received a Federal Tax ID" and "Obtained a Califorinia Reseller's Certificate" (as done tasks in one of your earlier posts).
    May I ask you;
    - Is the DSL model/Anton's course applicable to other geographies, not only the US?
    - Or is it possible to work the US market from abroad as non-US citizen with no bank account nor Federal Tax ID, etc... there?

    Thanks a lot!

    1. Hey Johann, I'm glad you're enjoying the blog and following my journey. Id I lived outside of the U.S. I would personally use Anton's course as a training course to pick niches, setup the store, learn how to get approved by dropshippers, etc etc and instead of doing it in the U.S. I would do it in my home country where there would be much less competition and lower ad fees. However a lot of non-U.S. members from Australia and Canada still sell in the U.S. because it is a bigger market.

I would sign up for Anton's course to watch all of the videos and get access to the members forums, read the international treads and then decide which route you want to take. You can sign up at www.AntonMethod.com

  3. Hey Johnny! I'm interested in why you think it won't last forever. Do you think the niche will die down, or be taken over by bigger/better websites? Are you planning on selling the site/business? I've also just moved to CM from Phuket, and wonder whether you go to Punspace at a regular time/day. Love to catch up and say Hi!

    1. Hey Allen, it's a combination of things but mainly because the barrier to entry is so low now that things like Anton's course teaches everyone how to do it. Right now there are still thousands of niches that aren't tapped but two years from now they'll all be tapped out. I'm just glad I'm getting into it now and have time to A. milk the profits and B. built a moat around the business after testing it and finding out which products sell the best. I don't plan on selling any of the sites, even though 18x months profit would be very nice, even if I don't touch it I have a feeling it'll still make money for 18 months anyways and then I don't have to deal with looking for buyers or getting my accounting sorted out, Transferring it etc.

I'm at Punspace everyday from 9am-4pm, feel free to drop by anytime and introduce yourself.

    2. Interesting timing in that it's now just about two years since your post above. Having stated that the decent niches would all be tapped out at this stage, how do you think the Dropshipping landscape looks today?

Thanks for the interesting documentation of your journey!

      Delete
    3. Hey Sdzh, that's crazy how long it's been. I just started a new store in a new niche exactly 1 year ago and even then it was fine. I still help people find niches through phone coaching and I'm pretty surprised when I still find untapped niches.

I think a lot of the easy ones like most furniture are now super saturated but there are literally thousands of products out there that we don't' even think about that are still untapped. The real question is, why didn't you start two years ago and are you going to wait another two years from now?

      Delete
    4. Hey Johnny, thanks for taking the time to response - I do appreciate that! A couple of things:

      1. To what extent does dropshipping rely on trying to game Google's algorythm by using backlinks & PBNs? I am assuming that, for the most part, margins are not large enough to allow for an effective SEO budget, so how do dropshippers get traffic? PPC? FB ads? Does the course cover this? How do you personally get traffic? This is the main thing preventing me from taking action, as I know from significant personal experience that the whole backlinking thing is arduous and is likely to produce mixed results that don't even offer and longeivety as Google is always (understandably) shifting the goal posts.

      2. I am UK-based, but would prefer to target the US market, as it's such a massively larger pool. Is this aspect covered?

      Many thanks!
      :)

      Delete
    5. Happy to share SDZH.

We use zero backlinks/PBNs, only basic on page SEO (clear titles, descriptions, photo tags, etc)

In the start your traffic and sales will come from paid adds, Google, Bing, FB, etc,

Now I get 70% of my sales through paid ads and 30% from organic, referrals, social, etc.

I spend around $100 in ads before making a profit, so I'd just budget $200 just in case, and just rinse and repeat.

UK vs. US I'd start in the UK if I were you unless you are committed to the paperwork involved in starting a U.S. business. (Think of it as 5 steps easier than getting a green card, but still a process)

Anton's course is actually closed to new members right now, but when he reopens he's adding a section on international business and in the U.S. for non-Americans. Best of luck, hope this helped.

    1. Hey TC,

If I could do it all over again, I would have formed an LLC in Nevada or Delaware where they don't have sales tax. It's kind of a pain in the butt having to charge and hold it but at the end of the day, it's one of those high value problems to have. It means you're making sales.

  6. Hi Johnny,

This sounds pretty incredible. I have a 40 hour a week job, but I am also yearning to be financially free. Is it possible to dedicate myself to dropshipping full time even though I have this job? I work in NYC, but am willing to make the sacrifices to make this work. Should I foresee a lot of sleepless nights, or people calling me during the day while I'm at work?

    1. Hey Max, I have a friend who is doing the same thing. What he does is he calls suppliers during his lunch break and after work which east coast time is still 3 or 4pm in California so it's fine. Also at noon it is 9am in California so spending 10 minutes during lunch calling suppliers is perfect. You'll have to dedicate 2 hours a night a few days a week, and instead of going out drinking on weekends, work on your business, but it is 100% doable.

Good luck with it bud and let me know how it goes.

    1. Hey Matt,

I'm glad you've been enjoying the podcasts buddy! The two ways to start an eComm business if you are not from the U.S. is either register for a U.S. LLC or use Anton's system to sell in your home country.

There are a couple of guys in the course that are successful using Anton's method outside of the US. Half of them registered as U.S. Companies and the other half sell locally. I'm actually phone coaching a guy in Australia now and it is 100% possible, it just takes a bit more work in the beginning to find suppliers. But I think the hard work is worth it as the Australian market is wide open right now and there is very little competition. Good luck buddy and let me know if you have any questions after you watch all of the member videos.

  9. Hey Johnny,
I got to hear of you from The Journey podcast that you did with Nic and Paul and tonight I have ready through some of your blog and want to say well done. I noticed in one of your posts that you are phone coaching a guy in Australia in Anton's method. I am keen to sign up to it to get all the insight that he has to offer, to be honest the price is a small investment, however I did notice you said finding suppliers in Aus etc is harder, was wondering if you would offer phone coaching to me, if so what is the cost. I would just like to try and maximise my investment and avoid any pitfalls.

Feel free to drop me a line directly: nsapsead@gmail.com

  10. Hey johnny congrats on the success. Just curious, would u recomend buying the additional services? Im putting away cash to start this next month and I know there are two other purchases. 1 being antons team make your website and the other being more personalized coaching. Also how much are they?

    1. Hi Aaron, thanks for the congrats buddy. Don't worry about other services, the basic course comes with everything you need. When you do sign up be sure to use my link in the resources page so I can credit for referring you. For the website design, I personally think it's better to do it yourself as you'll learn the process, you can always pay a redesign later on after you start making sales if you want your store to look good and stand out, but right now it's not necessary. Also for personalized coaching, don't worry about it for now, the videos in the course and the info in the forums will give you everything you'll need.

  13. I would love it if you could do a post on start up costs using your business as a model ie: how much it cost to advertise - to getting your first sale, how much you would need in the bank for dropshipping deposit ext , US tax registration for foreigners ext. Anton's course sounds amazing if a bit beyond my financial reach at the moment but I am more concerned about what the startup costs for a dropshipping model are and the average lead time to ROE . Thanks Johnny. Really inspired by your blog and listen to your podcasts regularly. Great work!

  14. Hey Clinton, that's a great idea for a post, I'll add it to my to do list. But just from memory:

    Sole Prop Business Setup: $0
Advertising Cost: ~$200 after using the $75 credits.
Inventory Cost: $0 but I put the first order on my credit card (10 days to recover costs)
    Logo: $5
Shopify: $58 (First 14 days was free)
Anton's Course was the biggest expense but it paid itself back after my first few sales.

Glad you enjoy the podcasts! Please take a second to leave a iTunes review as it helps A TON to gain listeners!

  15. Thanks Johnny, I think it would make a great show to show the relative startup ext and discuss the process more in depth. One of my biggest fears was not knowing the start up costs to getting your first sale (ave) so I'm really looking forward to listening to your show if you decide to do that . Awesome shows as always. ;-)

  16. Thanks Johnny , that would make a great pod cast too. I think a lot of folks would benefit from knowing what the average startup cost involve especially advertising. As someone from outside the US. advertising to sell a product in the US can be daunting when considering costs, legalities eg: setting up a US bank account (possible?) getting a US tax number and keeping everything above board ext , how to approach drop shippers (is it covered in antons course?) . I'm always looking forward to your shows, informative and entertaining as always. Cheers!

    1. You would technically need to collect sales tax if you both you and your supplier and customer are in the same state such as if all 3 were in California. But there are ways around this that is discussed when you're a member of the course.

    1. Hey Carbazzy, happy to help.

Months 0 - 2 I was doing the niche research and building the store so I made $0 sales and $0 revenue.

I launched my store live a few days before the end of the month which is why I only make $180 in profit as it was only around $1,000 - $2,000 in total sales (revenue)

It wasn't until the start of the 3rd month that I made $18k in revenue and $2k in profit.

Hope that clarifies it. Anton just used my first full month of my store being live as his testimonial example, which is fair.
