Video Tour of My New $200 a Month Apartment in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Hey guys if you read the last post I moved into a new apartment yesterday here in Chiang Mai, Thailand.  The cost is 6,300 baht a month which is $210US but that includes WiFi, Cleaning, Linen and Towel Service.  Best of all it's right next to my office, literally a 30 second walk.  (I timed it)

Here's a video of my new apartment in Chiang Mai:

Apartment prices range from 3,200 baht ($107US) for an older basic Thai style room up to 28,000 baht ($933US) for an extremely nice 1 or 2 bedroom apartment.  Best of all these are all completely furnished apartments usually with no lease or contracts.

I had gotten lucky and found a clean Thai style apartment for 3,750 ($125US) a month, and although it was close to my CrossFit gym which has been my priority for the past three months, now I wanted something closer to where I hang out and work.  I love the neighborhood, how quite it is and the freedom of living in a hotel room with no contracts.  With the Sofa, LCD TV and Outdoor Kitchen, it also gives me some of the comforts of home.

Upgraded apartment, upgraded lifestyle, welcome to Johnny 2.0

My next step that I'm working towards is generating enough online income to be able to easily and comfortably afford a luxury 1 bedroom apartment in a hotel resort.  For 20,000 baht ($667US) a month you can rent a 1 bedroom suite at the nicest hotels in Chiang Mai.  Bangkok would be a lot more expensive, up to double the price, but honestly I really don't like the lifestyle in Bangkok anyways and would not want to live there.

What I like about my new $200 apartment now is that it's my own place with no roommates.  No stress of cleaning, buying furniture, signing up for utilities such as electricity, cable, wifi, and no contracts.  I've always dreamed of being able to live out of a nice hotel room and this is basically it.  For the same price of having a 1 bedroom apartment in Chiang Mai, I've decided instead to have a clean comfortable hotel room that I use just for sleep anyways, and use that extra money to rent a nice, brightly lit office space across the street with 24/7 access, comfortable computer desks and chairs, free coffee, water, and fast wifi.

By the end of 2013 I would like to step it up to Johnny 3.0 and stay in even nicer hotels.  Two bedroom suites at this resort costs 25,000 baht per month ($833US) and include free round trip airport transfers, a gym, swimming pool, weekly maid service, and WiFi.  I got really good news today and became an authorized dealer for another furniture manufacture for my e-Commerce store and will continue to build my online store with the resorts as my year end goal.

For now I am extremely happy with my new $200 a month apartment here in Chiang Mai, being able to walk across the street to my office and down the road to some amazing restaurants.  Stay tuned for a video tour of Pun Space and what amazing dinners you can have for 200 baht...under $7 US.

Warm Regards,

Johnny FD

  1. Hi Johnny
Is there a reason why you don't post the address for this apartment complex or describe how to find it?

    1. Hey Rick, the apt is really small and doesn't have an English name. There are hundreds of apartments like that in Chiang Mai and in Thailand. Plus the owner doesn't speak good english and I don't want her getting swarmed with hundreds of emails wanting to rent out her tiny 8 room place. My advice is to park somewhere you intend to spend a lot of time in, or a neighborhood you like and walk around from there. You'll find something easily.

  2. Hey Johnny...have enjoyed your blog so far. Can't remember where i read it, but I truly liked your comments about focusing on yourself, and to forget about relationships, getting laid and so forth. This is precisely why I am moving from SoCal to CM in October/November. Basically to get my shit together, and to learn how to be myself again. I hope it works. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know I have enjoyed what you have written, and you seem to have a great attitude. Maybe I'll bump into you on the street one of these days. Oh, and isn't the Opium House sweet? I might just stay there the first 2-3 days I am there, until I get my feet on the ground...and figure out just what in the hell I'm going to do now!
