Take the Gold Watch Challenge.

It's the middle of the year and it's the perfect time to start a new challenge. My goal this year is to get as many people the #GoldWatchChallenge with me.
Exactly one year ago, I had $200 in my bank account. I was broke, and on the verge of having to move back in with my parents and interview for desk jobs that I knew I would hate. Instead, I set myself a goal. I wanted to become a Thai Millionaire. I wanted to have $30k in the bank within a year. Did I do it? More on that later this post isn't about me, it's about you.

"Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success." ~Swami Vivekananda
Setting and Achieving Goals:
Instead of running a 10k race, why not set your goals for financial independence this year instead? The reason why $10,000 is a great goal is that number will allow you to have an entire year's of runway to start your location independant business in a place like Chiang Mai, Thailand. You can live for less than $1,000 a month here while bootstrapping your business.

If you're just starting out and $30k seems a bit too much of a reach for this year, no worries. The point of the challenge is to get the ball rolling and the gold watch is purely a symbol.
Start where you are, but end up with something you can be proud of.

Costs of Living in Chiang Mai:
Rent: Basic Accommodations. 4,000 baht per month ($133US)
Co-Working Space Membership: 3,500 baht per month ($116US)
Food: Basic Thai Food. 5,000 per month ($166US)
Gym Membership: Basic. ($33US)
Bills/Drinks/Transport/Etc. $5,000 per month ($166US)
Total Basic Monthly Living Cost: 18,420 baht / $614US per month.
Is it possible?
There are a ton of entrepreneurs living in Chiang Mai. Some are making tons of cash living in baller suites, while tons of others are bootstrapping their businesses and living for $600 a month. It is absolutely possible, I know because I was one of them.

I'm In!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm out, you found your niche with the 12 weeks in Thailand book, all this online business, drop shipping, digital nomad etc etc has been done to death.
ReplyDeleteI'll drop by occasionally and see if another book similar to your last one comes along.
Best wishes
Hey Anon, keep an eye out for the 2nd book coming this summer.
DeleteI've been slacking and procrastinating on getting my store running. I just started a temporary job for the summer though to save up some cash. So I'm down to take on the $10,000 challenge. I've already got around $1300 and should be able to save approximately 2gs a month. Plus I'll be dabbling in some high risk bitcoin investments and trading to try and get up to 10k in the next 3-4 months.
ReplyDeleteThe 10k won't be from an online business but at least it's a start. Will make it easier to come back out to Asia if I decide to make the leap in Oct. Thanks for a little extra motivation Johnny!
Hey Adam, I am glad you are on board with the challenge! Keep me updated via #GoldWatchChallenge and here on the blog! Good luck with the summer $10K!
DeleteDude, I'm in! I'll go for the $30K. Tim Ferriss says to make unreasonable goals, and $30K in the bank sounds pretty unreasonable to me! Plus I know that I and everyone else will be killing it after the October retreat.
ReplyDeleteIsaac, super glad you are in buddy! Sometimes I spit out the most unreasonable goals while on air and somehow, once they are out there, they start coming true. Keep up the hard work!

ReplyDeleteI'm committing to have € 1.000 for each years I lived so far by my upcoming birthday in February 2021. Getting (g)old was never more exciting!
