Thailand Military Takes Over Government: Curfew in Chiang Mai
https://www.johnnyfd.com/2014/05/thailand-military-takes-over-government.html
The Thai military has declared a coup. There is a nationwide curfew from 10pm-5am and there are rumors that the internet will be shut down between the hours of 10pm-5am. Is it time to panic yet?
I don't spend my days stressing, and suggest you don't either. Instead, spend your days living, enjoying, smiling, and creating.
A coup d'état (/ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/; French: blow of state; plural: coups d'état audio (help·info)), also known as a coup, a putsch, or an overthrow, is the sudden and illegal seizure of a government. When the coup neither fails completely nor succeeds, a civil war is a likely consequence.
Nationwide Curfew:
Starting last night Thailand declared a nationwide curfew where everyone has to be indoors by 10pm. Bars were forced to shut and stop serving alcohol at night. People were forced to go home at a normal time instead of drinking all night.
Internet Shutting Down:
There has also been rumors about the Thai government shutting down the internet. As the ton of selfies with tanks flood my facebook wall from friends across Thailand suggest, it hasn't and will not happen.

Teacher's get a Day off:
One fantastic thing about the government shutdown and the coup take over is the fact that my girlfriend gets the day off. Yay.
If this goes on, we'll have all next week to work on a new internet business together. *fingers crossed*

What next?
If you're in Bangkok, I would suggest you take a vacation. Either go down to the islands such as Koh Lanta, Krabi, or over to Koh Tao or come up to Chiang Mai.
There's no reason to be in Bangkok, and although there's no immediate danger there, it's not worth the risk and headache of the extra traffic and laws right now. Use this week to get back on a normal sleep schedule, be home by 10pm and get a good night's sleep.
Wake up at a normal time, and use this opportunity to build your online business or to catch up on some rest and relaxation. Read a book, get a tan, enjoy the infinity pool. Just don't waste another minute reading the news. It's a waste of time.

100% Guarantee:
How do I know everything is going to be okay and not to worry? I don't. But chances are, there could be another earthlite in the U.S. or a natural disaster somewhere else before something actually goes around in Thailand. I've been through a Thai military coup years before when I lived down in Koh Tao and literally nothing happened.
I don't spend my days stressing, and suggest you don't either. Instead, spend your days living, enjoying, smiling, and creating.

Hey Johnny,
ReplyDeleteThis is Jon that Asian American residing in Thailand. Great article. It puts a better light on this situation which makes me and Im sure a lot of others who read this, stop worrying.
if anything I think it's a great time to take advantage of low airfare for people to book their flights to Thailand. It's no more dangerous here than in California right now.
